It’s International Children’s Day. Have you protected yours?

Today, 1st June, is International Children’s Day.  The World Conference for the Well-being of Children in Geneva, Switzerland, proclaimed June 1 to be International Children’s Day way back in 1925. It is usually marked with speeches on children’s rights and wellbeing and other events involving or dedicated to children.

We thought we’d mark it by asking if you’ve protected your children by making a Will?

By writing a Will, not only may you be protecting your children and grandchildren by gifting to them from your estate, you will also be protecting them from the unnecessary grief of not knowing what your intentions were regarding your estate, or indeed your funeral, whilst they are trying to deal with the grief of your demise.

Will writing is not complicated, nor need it be expensive. Indeed, with our Wills online template, you can write yours within ten minutes for as little as £19.99.

For an extra cost of £35 you can get a full legal check by  a Will writing expert in our legal team, who can advise, e.g., whether your Will is written in such a way as to ensure that your children will be taxed fairly when it comes to inheritance tax.

Whilst we’re on the subject of protecting your children, you really should put a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) in place, naming the people you wish to make decisions about finances, health and welfare should you at some point in the future become unable to make such decisions for yourself. If you do not have an LPA in place, your children will have to apply to the court for the right to make decisions on your behalf. This takes time and costs money. It will cause untold and unnecessary grief for those you love.

Our colleagues at The Will Associates can advise regarding LPAs, as well as other legal arrangements, including Trusts, which will enable you to protect your children and other family members.
